Our Story

Built by women, carried by craft.

Bagmati Arts & HandiCraft was founded in 1988 as a small Kathmandu workshop. Today the company is one of Nepal's established felt exporters, and the workforce still tells the real story: ninety-nine percent of the three hundred staff are women, many of whom have shaped felt here for decades.

Since 1996 the workshop has grown from its founding base into Swornim Bhawan on Prayag Marg in Bhimsengola, Kathmandu, funded entirely from the founders' own capital of Rs. 20,00,000. No outside backing. Just craft, care, and a team that refuses to rush.

The Craft

Four steps, no shortcuts, no chemicals.

Every Bagmati product follows the same disciplined felt process. The result is wool that holds its shape, keeps its colour, and lasts for years.

Loose New Zealand lamb wool ready for carding

Select the Wool

Only New Zealand lamb wool is used, chosen for its softness, crimp, and strength under constant handling.

Card and Dye

The wool is carded into even webs and dyed with Swiss dyes, giving every batch its clear, lasting colour.

Shape by Hand

Soap, water, and patient pressure felt the fibres together. No chemicals, no machines deciding the form.

Dry in the Sun

Pieces are sun-dried slowly so the felt keeps its shape and softness. Only then do they leave the workshop.
